all about me, part one

all about me 01 all about me, part one
This is the toughest part of creating the content for my fancy new website.

Learning about the structure of web design, the basics of html and css, the strategies behind SEO…that was easy compared to actually sitting down and composing an entire page about my own sweet self.  How do I provide all the information without sounding like an egotistical ass?  How do I keep it interesting?

What do you actually want to know about me?

There is a lot that has shaped my life:  where I’ve lived, my family, poverty, Montana, the principles of Buddhism, lots of therapy…not to mention art and craft and math and science.  Over the next few weeks, I’ll be using the blog here to figure out what to put on my final Bio page for the website.  I’ve got a good grasp on the code, the colors have been chosen, the fonts and styles and links and puzzle bits are all hammered out.

Now it’s time for the hard part.

What’s your approach on the dreaded “About Me” page?  Any words of wisdom?

  1. Free writing! The best advice my author friend gave me is to just write non~stop, non~censored for 15 minutes a day and see what comes of it!

  2. awesome! do you think it's too much to do that a bit on the blog? it feels so self indulgent to write about myself all the time, but I think it's the way to figure out what people find most interesting. it's hard for me to grasp the idea that people might actually ENJOY reading that kind of thing, but I always like reading about the people I follow online.

  3. I think that people would love it and find the process very interesting, especially if you prefaced the post with your intentions. Funny you should bring this up, because I've been playing around with my "about me" page too, trying to make it professional yet sincere. What if you did a weekly post "about me" and covered each aspect that has shaped your life. Easier said than done, I know. My hubby hands out business cards for me when people comment on the kids' knits, because I'm afraid it will come off as being pushy.

  4. ooooohhhhh thats hard, esp for someone like me who has zero flair for writing lol…. but YOU on the other hand are a fabulous writer, you can make anything fun to read about including yourself :) I like the free writing idea – and I'm always up for hearing about poverty – my 2cents ;)

  5. oh my goodness, I know! That is the hard part! I was just thinking I need to start writing about things more personal…but it is daunting. I think for your bio short and sweet is good, be funny, don’t be too wordy…and write on the blog about YOU and maybe then I will too :-)
I’ll be back to check on ya;!
